Important COVID-19 Technology Information

At Solinkit, we have been closely monitoring the situation surrounding the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). The health and well-being of your employees and partners remains the utmost importance to us all. Considering the coronavirus pandemic, we have made plans to help you move to a remote workforce, especially now that the Governor of Pennsylvania has increased the amount of businesses that are required to close their doors.  More of our local community is beginning to have an impact as stay at home orders have been put in place for many counties, including Cumberland and Dauphin.

Solinkit is prepared to help you stay productive and navigate potential business challenges. Please note the following:

We are taking extra measures to ensure the stability of our clients and community during this time.  Our business hours have been extended with a 24/7 emergency help desk.  To help during this economic downturn, we are waiving additional fees for after hour support.  Additionally, we are extending these rate adjustments to new customers as well.  In times like this the community needs to pull together and do their part.

In addition to extended hours and after hour fee reductions, we are also taking extra safety measures by sanitizing our work areas before and after work has been completed.  Before work on every machine we are following recommended CDC guidelines.

Be Aware of COVID-19 Phishing Scams

The Department of Homeland Security CISA (cyber and infrastructure) warns individuals to remain vigilant for scams related to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).  CISA encourages individuals to remain vigilant and take the following precautions.  Avoid clicking on links in unsolicited emails and be wary of email attachments. See Using Caution with Email Attachments and Avoiding Social Engineering and Phishing Scams for more information.

Use trusted sources such as legitimate, government websites for up-to-date, fact-based information about COVID-19.  Do not reveal personal or financial information in an e-mail, and do not respond to email solicitations for this information.

Remote Computer Access

We can provide your workforce with full remote computer access to ensure that you can carry on your business. We have partnered with RemotePC to enable full functionality to work as if you were sitting at your desk. RemotePC offers secure and optimized solutions for remote access to your on-site computers.

RemotePC allows you to access and manage your distant computers at any time, from any device – as long as that computer has an active internet connection. RemotePC is also platform independent so you can access your remote computer on Windows, Linux, Android and Mac.

We trust this platform because it is secure and firewall friendly so you can share your computer over an internet connection. RemotePC allows you to transfer files from your phone / home computer to your remote computer and vice versa. You can print documents that are on your remote computers from wherever you are and you can view computer with multiple monitors, even if you only have one.

Work from Home Tips

If you are experiencing internet connectivity problems, please restart your home internet equipment. This will resolve most issues with residential modems.

If you still feel your computer is running slow, this can be caused by a browser with many tabs opened or a computer that is always left on. It’s always a good idea to close and reopen your browser if web browsing seems sluggish or, even better, restart your computer by clicking on the start menu, select “Power” and then select “Restart”.

Use programs like CCleaner to remove un-needed pre-loaded programs and remove junk files from your computer. Keep your antivirus and operating system updated, Microsoft’s own antivirus is a very good solution today. Backup your data in a second location off your computer, either using the cloud or a removable device. Malwarebytes is another very good program that will help keep your computer safe.

It is always advisable to use your company-issued computer to perform any work or access any company data or resources. Your personal computer may not have the same level of protection as your company computer.

Remote Support and System Monitoring

While your office is closed, we can ensure that your hardware is working correctly in the physical location. At Solinkit we can monitor everything remotely and ensure that your machines are up to date. This includes making sure that your machines are getting security updates, proactive monitoring, identifying viruses and malware and providing remote assistance and support.

Data Storage and Backup

We recommend utilizing Synology as our customers source for file sharing, file syncing, and data backup. Synology’s File station is a versatile file manager that allows you to share files easily and safely. With one link you can share files or request file uploads from other people. Files can be accessed from anywhere securely – you can even explore files using a mobile device. Synology’s Data Backup allows you to protect personal and business data.

Information about Ordering New Equipment

Please note, because many manufacturing and supply chains are shut down or otherwise disrupted, it may become difficult to procure new computers and other IT equipment in the coming weeks and months. If you have any new hires on the horizon or other IT, make sure to plan these in advance now to have plenty of lead time to order the necessary equipment.
